sequel movies

Hey guys!. In this post, I’ll be discussing a list of Top 8 Most Anticipated Sequel Movies of 2022. For this list, we're looking at films that will be coming out this year that we can't wait to watch. Let's hope there aren't any hiccups or delays. Alright, let’s get this top list started.

8. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

We saw impressive action, an expansive underwater world, and plenty of explosions in Jason Momoa's first outing as Aquaman. While we don't know much plot details, but we know that Yahya Abdul-Mateen 2, will be back as Black Manta. And we also expect all these fun elements and much more in the upcoming aquatic adventure.

We're certain that spectacular action sequences with grounded and emotional moments, we're excited to watch Aquaman 2 sail into the uncharted territory of the Seven Seas.

7. Top Gun: Maverick.

Tom Cruise has been in numerous classic films, but Top Gun, 1986, has stood the test of time better than others. He is back to his role as pilot Pete Maverick Mitchell in the sequel, which promises plenty of challenging and exciting flying sequences. Val Kilmer and Jennifer Connelly return to their roles, but there's also a slew of newcomers, including Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.

We've been waiting for this film since the trailer debuted in 2019, and we're hopeful the current release date sticks this time.

6. Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

When the first Sonic movie turned out to be amazing, we were actually surprised. Casting Jim Carrey as the crazy Dr. Robotnik was his funniest performance in years, and Ben Schwartz was a terrific choice for Sonic's voice. The movie established both ratings and box office success and proved that video games can make a good movie.

The sequel will pick up shortly after the finish of the first, with Sonic teaming up with his buddies, to stop Dr. Robotnik from causing any chaos. Robotnik, on the other hand, teams up with Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba.

5. Avatar 2.

The time for an avatar sequel was 10 years ago, as we all know. Every time James Cameron's long-awaited film hits the big screen, it breaks box office records, but only time will tell if Avatar 2 does the same. We're anticipating big things, and while the original film did pull some punches, no one can deny that Avatar was a major deal in the entertainment industry.

This is a must-see on the big screen for a cinematic experience, especially if it features some game-changing visual effects.

4. Jurassic World Dominion.

We will never get tired of watching dinosaurs on the big screen. Fallen Kingdom ended on a cliffhanger with the dinosaurs entering the open world, and we're looking forward to seeing how dominion will deal with this, especially with the fear of the apex predators. Also return of trio, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neil, and Laura Dern, from original cast joining with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Justice Smith.

With a packed ensemble cast coming together for what might be the biggest Jurassic outing ever with a dramatic climax for this trilogy.

3. Thor: Love and Thunder.

Another notable MCU sequel is the first film in the Avenger franchise to feature a fourth solo film. Because Ragnarok was so successful in the Thor saga, Marvel was undoubtedly eager to give it another shot. As Natalie Portman's return to her role as Jane Foster, which aligns with her debut as the Mighty Thor, labeling the movie "solo" may not be the best way to describe it.

Thor departs with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Endgame; it's unknown how much screen time the Guardians will have in the sequel, but fans are eager to see Thor and Jane reuniting.

2. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Benedict Cumberbatch's next Doctor Strange film will be much more ambitious. Granted, Cumberbatch is a touch prejudiced, but the universe of lunacy might take us to the world beyond our wildest dreams. Whereas No Way Home is likely to center on the Spider-Man, the Dr. Strange sequel can go in any direction. We know that Scarlet Witch will play an important role, and Tom Hiddleston will be back as Loki.

The continuing saga of Dr. Stephen Strange has a multiverse of exciting parts, and the latest trailer further added to the possibilities. One thing is certain: we must be prepared to embrace both the chaos and the delightfulness.

1. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

And finally, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore takes our top spot. The third installment in the Fantastic Beasts saga is set to hit theatres next month, and with Mads Mikkelsen taking over the role of Gellert Grindelwald from Johnny Depp, we should have more eyes on it than ever before.

Despite the controversies surrounding the production crew, Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston, and Jude Law come back to prove that there is still enough magic in the pre-Harry Potter era.

Here are some honourable mentions:

  • Knives Out 2 is now in post-production and will be released on Netflix, but no official release dates yet.
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to be released on November 11, 2022, is expected to be different from the other MCU sequels.
