Top 6 Upcoming Kdramas in April 2022

Top 6 Upcoming Kdramas in April 2022

Hey guys!. In this post, I’ll be discussing a list of Top 6 Upcoming Kdramas in April 2022. And thus concludes the first quarter of the year. Don’t know about you, but while my life has been pretty hectic, my KDrama journey has been the best there is, with multiple series filling up my entire week.

But worry not if your watchlist hasn’t been filled, for April already seems like a pretty great month! With a variety of genres and many top actors - Let’s check out what’s in line this April.

1. Again My Life.

Let’s start the list with a familiar face~ That’s right, the king of the action genre Lee Joon Gi is finally coming back after his 2020 thriller series ‘Flower of Evil’. And the actor’s return this time is yet another revenge drama under the title ‘Again My Life’. In this upcoming series, Lee Joon Gi is going to transform into Kim Hee Woo, who was once a student with miserable scores at school.

He is a hard-worker, however, and through intense studying, had been able to enter a university, even passing the bar exam to practice law. Now, our Hee Woo is an enthusiastic prosecutor who tries his hardest to punish criminals, who is currently investigating a possible corruption case, related to the all-mighty politician Jo Tae Seob. Sounds very much like a regular drama, right?

Well, not exactly, because our male lead will soon die - without ever know who’s behind his murder. Yet, this is the start of the drama, because Hee Woo will soon wake up and once again, find himself alive. Adapted from a web novel of the same name, Again My Life is going to be a full-fledged mystery, as our male lead tries to prepare himself and seeks out the truth behind his death.

Packed with action and investigation - the series will surely be a great start for your April - and really, has Lee Joon Gi ever disappointed?

2. Green Mothers’ Club.

Now, let’s approach a more woman-focused series, which will be taking up the Wed-Thur time slot after the ongoing drama ‘Thirty Nine’. Like its name, the series is going to be all about a club of mothers, whose children are all in elementary school, leading to their chance meetings.

This mommy gang takes friendship and motherhood super seriously, and take to each other like fish to water, leading to hilarious and yet super heart-warming stories. Still, each character is going to have their own complex issue - which the series will slowly unveil. Starting off is Lee Eun Pyo - a highly educated mother who’s all about aesthetics.

She’s whole-heartedly wild, and so stumbles forth all sorts of incidents, kicking up a seemingly peaceful community. She will soon butt heads against her frenemy Seo jin Ha, a gentle mother who has a handsome foreign husband and a gifted son.

And of course, we are also going to get Byun Chun Hee - a mother full of beauty prowess who can dig up all sort of juicy gossips, followed by Kim Young Mi and Park Yun Joo - aka Eun Pyo’s cousin who’s a scoundrel, and thus starting a whole series of messes.

Green Mothers’ Club is going to be a wild yet healing ride, completed with a cast full of talented actors. Just what will happen to this mismatched gang? There’s only one way to find out.

3. Shooting Stars.

Well, after all the rumors dating back to this January, finally we are getting Shooting Stars - a series that will star the famous actress Lee Sung Kyung, as well as the up-and-coming actor Kim Young Dae - who was a part of Penthouse and Extraordinary You. Shooting Stars is going to pose the question: ‘We all know about the life of celebrities, but what about those that help these stars shine?”

And truthfully enough, the series is going to talk about those that work behind the scenes - people who do promotions, manage actors, and even clean up messes left behind by our favorite top stars. This time, our heroine is Oh Han Byul - who is in charge of public relations. She’s a top-notch worker that dominates her field - with an extraordinary eloquence and excellent crisis response skills.

Enter our male lead Gong Tae Sung - a top star actor who is signed to the company where Han Byul works. He’s adored by the public for his angel-like smile, as well as a polite and upright image. And yet, not everything is as it seems, for Tae Sung is extremely hot-tempered off the screen. He and Han Byul are natural enemies who bicker all the time and yet later develop feelings.

So really, if you want the fun and teasing chemistry, and might be curious as to how the entertainment industry is run, Shooting Stars is going to be perfect on your watchlist!

4. My Liberation Diary.

Next in line is a series that will remind you of ‘My Mister’, for ‘My Liberation Diary’ will revolve around three siblings and a stranger, who all want to escape their frustrating life. The drama will be set in Sanpo Village - a place where more people leave than stay, and is also where the three Yeom siblings - including Chang Hee, Mi Jung, and Ki Jung reside.

To them, life is bland and without answer, but soon everything will change with the arrival of a mysterious man. Mr. Goo, their new neighbor, is a drunkard that looks like he is filled with burdens and secrets. He’s super cautious and never mind businesses other than his own, and yet this nature made him the talk of town.

Soon enough though, the timid Mi Jung - who is the youngest among the Yeoms, had approached this mean, kicking up a series of events. My Liberation Diary will be a take on loneliness, the meaning of life, as well as of familial ties. Starring Lee Min Ki, Kim Ji Won, Son Seok Koo, and Lee El - it will be a series to look forward to.

5. 493km For You / Love All Play.

Now, if you enjoy series like Twenty Five Twenty One, Racket Boys, or Hot Stove League, here’s a sport-themed drama just for you, as 493km For You is going to be a sports romance drama that depicts the passion and affect between two badminton players.

First, we are going to be introduced to the protagonist Park Tae Joon, played by actor Chae Jong Hyeop, who stole our hearts as the second male lead of the risque series Nevertheless. This time, he is going to transform into an athlete, who naturally picked up badminton due to his parent’s badminton equipment business. At first, we see him losing fire and beginning to see the sports as plain old work.

And yet, the appearance of a woman had reignited his passion. Enters our female lead Park Tae Yang, played Extracurricular and Mouse’s Park Joo Hyun. She was once an aspiring Olympian, before losing it all and have to leave the badminton world for three years due to a bribing scandal. And as our protagonist gets closer, will love blossoms just like their passion for badminton? Guess we will have to find out.

6. Our Blues.

Finally, we are approaching ‘Our Blues’ - a Kdrama with the quote unquote “monster cast” - aka, full of big names, including Kim Woo Bin, Shin Min Ah, Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, Lee Jung Eun, and Cha Seung Won. Yes, the long-term couple Woo Bin and Min Ah are starring in a series together, but unfortunately, not as a couple.

Instead, Our Blues is an omnibus series that will tackle the tales of different characters, who are separated and yet somewhat interconnected in one way or another. The first story in this intriguing series is about Lee Dong Suk - a truck-seller who is born on the beautiful island of Jeju. He soon meets Min Sun Ah, a girl who has come to his hometown to escape her mysterious past.

Then, we will dive into a different piece starring Park Jung Joon - a ship captain who falls in love with the bright and bubbly diver Lee Young Ok. And finally, the story will conclude with Jung Eun Hee, a fish shop owner who reunites with Choi Han Soo - her past lover. Apparently, the guy returns to Jeju Island after realizing that he doesn’t fit into the hectic city - and now sought peace, and maybe love?

That’s three different tales wrapped within 20 episodes - all set in the tranquility and sea breeze of Jeju Island. Perhaps it will be fitting for those who are seeking a simple and romantic peace of mind?

By the way, another series called ‘The Killer’s Shopping Listing’ is also rumored to air in either April or May. This investigation drama will star the famous Lee Kwang Soo and the idol-turned-actress Kim Seolhyun.

It seems that April is quite about slice-of-life, with some sprinkles of investigation. Are there any April Kdramas that have grasped your attention?
